Thanks to the lovely Ty and Marija, we got to visit Hamburg a few weekends back.
As we’ve been busy packing, faffing about getting visas and sorting a party out, I’m going to make this a short and sweet post.
Hamburg rocks (not a Beatles references by the way, as I couldn’t care less), it has awesome food, people and attractions. But if you ever go to Hamburg there is one thing you must absolutely do without question. Visit the Miniatur Wunderland model railway! I am being completely serious. It’s the biggest model railway in the entire world and it’s number 1 on Trip Advisor, so it must be awesome right?
The amount of detail the model makers have gone into is ridiculous. Suffice to say, my camera battery ran out just before I reached the end due to the amount of pictures I took (or at least tried to anyway).
Major highlights include:
- Mini elephant trampling a car at the circus
- Planes that actually take off and land at the mini airport
- A house fire (?!) that summons about 20 fire engines form across town (not pictured, but it was brilliant trust me)
If you didn’t have a reason to visit Hamburg before, you do now! Check out Minitaur Wunderland’s website here for more info.
Oh and I should probably mention that we stayed in a converted parking block! Courtesy of Air BnB (thanks to Marija for tracking this one down). My pics came out dreadful, but the Air BnB listing should give you a pretty good idea of how fab it was.
Anyway, I need to to some more panic packing (we’re homeless in 9 days time I think, oh dear) so Auf Wiedersehen pet!
